Shannon Murray

A bit about me.

Soprano Shannon Murray is a fearless performer and emerging artist specializing in contemporary music. Her most recent work includes the world premiere of Voces Fantasmas (2021), a multi-disciplinary work of music, dance, and film by J.E. Hernández, in collaboration with the Apollo Chamber Players, Houston Contemporary Dance Company, and FILMATIC.

Her work as a soloist and collaborator has also been featured by distinguished organizations such as the Kennedy Center for the Arts, the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston, the Moody Center of the Arts, AURA Contemporary Ensemble and PDC Works Dance Company.

Murray is a second-year Young Artist of DACAMERA, a Houston-based organization which seeks to inspire audiences and enrich communities through diverse and inventive musical experiences.

Upcoming engagements include Musiqa’s world premiere of Laura Schwendiger’s opera, “Cabaret of Shadows,” and Murray’s artistic directing debut of “A voice of one’s own,” a new music-drama for voices and electronics, in collaboration with Finnish composer Amanda Martikainen.

Murray holds a Bachelor of Music from the University of Houston, Moores School of Music, where she studied with soprano Cynthia Clayton.
